Floor and Tiles · Documentation
Quick start
A floor in six steps. Ten minutes, and you've touched most of the rollouts. Everything below works the same on the object and on the modifier.
A floor
- Start with something to tile: the floor slab you've already modelled, or a closed spline drawn round the room. Anything with an outline works.
- Two ways in, same result. Press Floor and Tiles on the main toolbar and click the slab: a new object is made, the slab's outline is picked and a field of tiles is laid inside it. Or select the slab and add the Floor and Tiles modifier from the modifier list: the tiles are laid on the slab itself, with its own outline as the area. The object can pick several rooms and can tile a spline; the modifier stays on one object and follows it if the slab changes.
- Open Pattern and pick a type from the list, Monticello for instance. Properties rebuilds itself for that pattern; type your real square and picket sizes there and the floor follows.
- Still in Pattern, give the tiles a Thickness so they become solid pieces, and set the Grout, which is the joint between them. Want something in the joint? Grout › Generate grout puts a slab under it.
- In Areas, press Add Border Pro. A band splits off round the edge as a row of its own, with all the same rollouts, so you can give it another pattern, or the same tile running along the walls.
- Finally, materials: Material IDs shows which number every piece gets. Build a Multi/Sub-Object material with those slots, drop it on the object, and the field, the border and the grout each pick up their own.
