Presets
The whole floor, this row and every border round it, saved and loaded. The rollout is object-level, next to Areas and About, because a preset is one floor rather than one row.
| Save File | Writes the floor to a .ftg file. Plain text: every setting of every row, by name, so it can be read and edited in any editor. The dialog opens in the plugin's presets folder, which every installed Max version shares. |
| Load File | Reads a .ftg back onto the selected floor. Borders in the file are created on the same object; borders the floor has and the file does not are removed. Other rooms in the object, such as a hallway picked separately, are untouched. When it is done the field of the loaded floor is selected, whichever row was selected before. |
| Copy Code | The same floor as a short code on the clipboard (the file's text, compressed and checked) for pasting into a message or a forum post. |
| Paste Code | Lays a code onto the selected floor. The contents of a .ftg copied out of an editor are taken too. A code cut short by a chat window fails its check and is refused rather than half-loaded. |
| status line | What happened: what was loaded, how many borders, or why it was refused. |
What a preset carries
Every setting of every row: Pattern, Properties, Board Randomization, Grout, Borders, General, Material IDs and Mapping, including each border's inset and width, so a floor comes back with its borders where they were. The rows' order in the Areas list is kept.
Not carried, because it belongs to the room rather than to the design:
| The picked object | A preset lands on whatever floor is selected. |
| The Missing Boards map | A texture would mean nothing in another scene. |
| Plane | Which way the picked object faces belongs to that object. Carrying it would lay somebody's wall pattern flat on their floor. |
| Offset X / Y | Measured from the picked object's own origin, and two walls modelled the same way can have their pivots anywhere. Left out, a pasted floor starts at the corner of the object it landed on. Rotation does travel: it is measured from the plane's own axes and means the same on any object, and a herringbone at 45° that came back at 0 would not be the design that was copied. |
| Enabled | A floor switched off to look at the slab under it should not come back switched off. |
Versions and editions
A setting the file does not carry is left as it was, and one this version does not know is skipped, so a preset written by an older or a newer Floor and Tiles loads whatever the two have in common. The status line says when something was dropped.
The free edition lays one row: a preset with borders loads its field and reports the borders it could not lay. The patterns in it are kept, so the same file loads whole once Pro is activated.
.ftg into the plugin's presets folder, FloorAndTiles.bundle\presets, and it is there for every Max version on the machine.
