Floor and Tiles Generator

A 3ds Max plugin that lays tiles: on an outline, on any object, or over a whole room. This is the reference: every rollout and every control, in the order they appear in the panel.

What it is

Floor and Tiles comes as two things that share the same settings:

Floor and Tiles objectA floor laid on the outline of picked objects: a room's floor slab, a spline, anything with an edge. Create › Geometry › Floor and Tiles, or the toolbar button.
Floor and Tiles modifierThe same floor as a modifier on one object: the object's own outline is the area.

A floor is a list of rows (the field and any borders), and each row has the rollouts described here: Pattern, Properties, Board Randomization, Grout, Borders, General, Material IDs, Mapping.

Install

  1. Download the .mzp from your Gumroad library (Pro) or the free page.
  2. Drag it onto a 3ds Max viewport. One installer covers 3ds Max 2024, 2025, 2026 and 2027.
  3. Restart Max. A Floor and Tiles button appears on the main toolbar; the objects are in Create › Geometry › Floor and Tiles; the modifier is in the modifier list.

Pro: open the About rollout and enter the key from your receipt once. One key covers all of your machines.

To remove: Customize › Plug-in Manager won't do it; run uninstall.ms from the bundle folder, or delete %APPDATA%\Autodesk\ApplicationPlugins\FloorAndTiles.bundle.

The toolbar

One toolbar, Floor and Tiles, with one button. It starts the create mode of the Create panel, so the first click after pressing it picks the slab or spline.

Floor and TilesA new Floor and Tiles object, with Pick Area already on: click the outline to tile. The same as Create › Geometry › Floor and Tiles › Floor and Tiles.

The modifier has no button: select the object and pick Floor and Tiles from the modifier list. The toolbar is the plugin's own and appears by itself; if it is closed, Customize › Show UI › Show Floating Toolbars brings it back, and the Floor and Tiles command is in the Floor and Tiles category of Customize User Interface for a shortcut or a quad menu.

Free and Pro

The free edition lays the Basic pattern on one outline, with everything in Pattern, Properties, Board Randomization, Grout, General, Material IDs and Mapping. Pro adds the other thirteen patterns and borders. Controls that need Pro are marked Pro in these pages.

How to read these pages

Each page is one rollout. A table lists every control in panel order, with what it does and, where it matters, why it is there. The pictures show what the control does to the floor rather than the panel itself, and where a value has a good default the text says so.
