Slots and shortcuts
What a slot is and how the modifier keys reach them.
What a slot holds
A slot is a folder with a scene file in it: the selected objects, their children, their materials and maps, saved in the version of Max set in Settings › Copy & Paste › Max Save Version. Beside it is a preview picture (the viewport as it was at the copy, or the rendered sample spheres in Material Mode) and a note with the object names, the author, the time, a comment and whether the slot is locked. The Asset Browser reads the note; the HUD shows the picture.
Local slots live in %TEMP%\ES_CopyPaste_Local; remote ones in the folder each network target names. A slot is a folder, so it can be copied, mailed or opened in Explorer like any other.
The keys
The plugin reads the modifier keys at the moment a Copy or Paste button is pressed, or its keyboard shortcut. There are eight combinations, so eight slots on the keys:
| Slot 1 | No key |
| Slot 2 | Shift |
| Slot 3 | Ctrl |
| Slot 4 | Alt |
| Slot 5 | Ctrl + Shift |
| Slot 6 | Ctrl + Alt |
| Slot 7 | Shift + Alt |
| Slot 8 | Ctrl + Alt + Shift |
The same key that copied into a slot pastes out of it.
Locks
A locked slot is not overwritten by a copy and not cleared by Clear Cache. Lock in the browser. The lock is a mark in the slot's own note, so a locked slot on a share is locked for everyone.
Clearing
Clear Local Cache and Clear Remote Cache in Settings delete every unlocked slot of that kind. There is no archive in the beta: a cleared or overwritten slot is gone, so lock what you want to keep.
