Material Mode
The same eight slots, used for materials instead of objects.
Toggle Material Mode on the toolbar and Copy and Paste work on materials instead, local and remote alike, with the same keys. The HUD and the browser switch with it: the browser's title says [MATERIAL MODE], and the previews are the materials' sample spheres. Material slots are separate from object slots, so switching the mode does not touch what is in the other set.
Copy
Where the materials come from depends on what is open:
| Slate editor open | The materials selected in the active view. |
| Compact editor open | The material in the active sample slot. |
| No editor open | The materials of the selected objects, children included. |
The materials are saved as a material library in the slot, maps included; with Collect & Send Textures on, the bitmaps travel with a remote copy.
Paste
| Slate editor open | The materials are loaded into the active view as nodes. |
| Compact editor open | Into the sample slots, starting at the active one. |
| No editor, objects selected | The first material in the slot is applied to every selected object. |
| No editor, nothing selected | Nothing happens, and the HUD says to open an editor or select objects. |
